What we list

Official government sites come first in our guides. We add independent tools, campground networks and services when they genuinely help with a trip on public lands. Every listing is written by us from the company's own website; inclusion is not a review or an endorsement.

"Start here" picks

Chosen by us for each topic, for the reason shown under each one. They can't be bought.

Links

Every outbound link is nofollow except verified listings, which get a normal link. Verification is free and can't be bought. Paid placements use sponsored links and are always labelled.

Affiliate links

Some links are affiliate links, marked "Affiliate link". If you book or buy through one, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. Affiliate links use sponsored and never affect our picks or the order of any list.

Claims and verification

Claims are checked by a person. Verified means the company proved it runs its website, by an email from its own domain or a DNS record we provide. We re-check from time to time and remove the mark if a check fails.

Corrections and removal

Use the claim form or email info@recreation.org. We fix sourced errors quickly and remove companies that close or change what they do.
