Questions

Where do I book a campsite in a national park?

Most national park and national forest campgrounds are booked on Recreation.gov, the official federal site. Some parks also have first-come, first-served sites that can't be reserved.

How far ahead can I book?

It depends on the campground. Many federal campgrounds release sites on a rolling window, often up to six months ahead, at a set time of day. Check the campground's page on Recreation.gov.

Are state parks on Recreation.gov?

No. Each state runs its own reservation system. Use the state park links in the table above.
